Andersraum e.V.

As a roof for queer communities in Hanover, Andersraum e.V. is a grassroots organization. The association grows continuously through the commitment and ideas of many different people, always driven by the motto "So you can be who you are."

As a queer organization, it is important to us not only to be there for the queer community through our offerings, but also to live this internally. In doing so, diverse perspectives beyond queer identities are important to us.

For some time now, our organization has been undergoing a guided transformation process with the goal of making our team more diverse and inclusive. We want the "Andersraum" to be not only a safe space for queer people but also a point of contact and support structure for people and groups who have experienced racism. To achieve this, we are examining our position of (power) as an organization and are undertaking further training in areas such as anti-racism, critical whiteness, and ableism, among others. We know that learning and change take time, but we want to bring about sustainable change. We are a team that is currently predominantly white, many of us have university degrees, and few of us experience societal barriers due to disability. We are aware that this means we lack important perspectives and experiences – and we want to actively change this.
