Andersraum e.V.

As an umbrella organization for queer communities in Hanover, Andersraum e.V. is a grassroots organization. The association is growing continuously thanks to the commitment and ideas of many different people, always driven by the motto "So that you can be who you are."

As a queer association, it is important to us not only to be there for the queer community through our services, but also to live this internally. Diverse perspectives beyond queer identities are important to us.

For some time now, we as an association have been undergoing a guided transformation process with the aim of making our team more diverse and inclusive. We want Andersraum to not only be a safe space for queer people, but also a contact point and support structure for people and groups who have experienced racism. In order to achieve this, we examine our (power) position as an association and educate ourselves on topics such as anti-racism, critical whiteness and Saneism. We know that learning and change take time, but we want to make a lasting difference. We are a team that is currently primarily white, many of us have studied and only a few of us experience social barriers due to disability. We know that this means we are missing out on important perspectives and experiences - and we want to actively change that.
