The University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna (Vetmeduni) is Austria’s only academic institution for veterinary medicine, education, and research, and also the oldest in the German-speaking world—founded in 1765 by Empress Maria Theresa. Confident, committed, and innovative: Vetmeduni stands for responsible action in the interest of human, animal, and environmental health. Here, we conduct research on topics that are significant to society. Our focus is on animal health as well as preventive veterinary medicine, public health, and food safety. Research interests include, among other things, establishing the scientific foundations for animal well-being, as well as topics related to animal husbandry, animal welfare, and animal ethics. Our goal is to provide the best possible support to all employees and students in various work and life situations, helping them balance their careers or studies with family life. We offer flexible work schedules, a comprehensive training and continuing education program, occupational health services on campus, and childcare during school breaks; under certain conditions, employees may also bring their own dogs to work.
