Boehringer Ingelheim

About Us/ What We Stand For As a Diverse Company

At Boehringer Ingelheim, everyone plays a role – including in creating a diverse and respectful culture. Every single person is important in driving change within our company. Respect, trust, empathy, and collaboration are very important to us. We believe that an open, respectful, and opportunity-driven corporate culture is a key factor for customer understanding, innovation, and employer attractiveness. That is why we also see diversity as a crucial criterion for growth.

Rainbow Career Services are important to us because…

...we are convinced: You shouldn't have to explain yourself at work – but rather be able to develop. We're participating in "Rainbow Career Day" because diversity is not a buzzword for us, but part of our attitude. We believe that different life paths, identities, and perspectives make teams stronger. And that real innovation only arises where people feel safe to be who they are. It's important to us that you don't just find a job with us, but a place where respect, openness, and equal opportunities are lived out. A place where you are welcome with your ideas, your strengths, and your personality – completely without drawers. Come by, get to know us, ask your questions, be curious. We look forward to the exchange with you – just as you are.

We are already implementing the following diversity measures in our company:

What exactly is Boehringer Ingelheim doing to promote diversity in all its dimensions? We’re taking action on many fronts. For example, some of our initiatives are specifically aimed at advancing gender equality within the company, while others help embed our values holistically throughout the organization: We take a clear stand for diversity and democratic values. For example, we have signed the Diversity Charter and support the „Made by Diversity“ campaign, which advocates for an open, pluralistic society. We reject any form of discrimination based on, for example, religion, sexual orientation, gender, age, or cultural background. Contact persons are available at any time to answer questions on this topic. We have also established transparent processes that come into effect in cases of discrimination. Since 2015, we have been providing our employees with guidance on respectful communication. This contributes to a communication style that includes everyone and excludes no one. Openness, respect, and equal opportunity play a crucial role in our HR processes—such as recruiting, talent management, and succession planning. For example, we focus on targeted succession planning that takes all genders into account. Openness, respect, and equal opportunity are an integral part of our leadership development seminars. In our meetings, we begin with an „Integrity Minute.“ During this time, we discuss a specific topic from our Code of Conduct, including aspects related to openness, respect, and equal opportunity. For example: How do we handle the fasting month of Ramadan on the production floor? What can we all do to combat racism? We promote flexible leadership models. These include top-sharing (two leaders sharing one position) and part-time leadership. This allows us to accommodate different life choices. Diversity also plays a central role in research: gender, genetics, or age can influence how medications work. That’s why we design clinical trials to ensure that all groups are adequately represented. And that’s not all: „In addition to these overarching measures, we offer numerous programs that help people better understand individual dimensions of diversity,“ says Nico Komarowsky, an expert on diversity and cultural issues. For us, diversity is a path forward. The extended executive management team in Germany regularly addresses strategic issues related to openness, respect, and equal opportunity, reviews progress, sets new goals, and decides on measures to be taken. For Nico Komarowsky, one thing is clear: „We can be proud of what we’ve achieved in terms of openness, respect, and equal opportunity. But it remains our responsibility to promote and live out respectful and open cooperation every day.“
