Rhineland Association (LVR)

About Us/ What We Stand For As a Diverse Company

The Landschaftsverband Rheinland (LVR) stands for inclusion, equality, and diversity – not only in its tasks but also as an employer. With around 22,000 employees in diverse working environments, we are committed daily to the participation of all people in social life. Our fields of work are as diverse as our society: from social services, health, and care, to psychiatry, youth welfare, and schools, to administration, technology, IT, culture, and heritage conservation. Whether in field service or at a desk, in a clinic or a museum – our employees jointly shape an inclusive public service. The diversity of our employees is our strength: different perspectives, experiences, and life realities enrich our work and make the LVR a modern, future-proof employer that not only promotes but also lives diversity.

Rainbow Career Services are important to us because…

...they create a safe, appreciative space for queer talent and enable direct dialogue between employers and the LGBTQIA+ community. As the LVR, it is important for us to visibly stand for diversity – both internally and externally. By participating in the Rainbow Career Lounge, we want to show that the LVR is a place where people can be who they are – with all their facets. We want to encourage LGBTQIA+ talent to feel welcome and valued by us – because we know: diversity is our strength.

We are already implementing the following diversity measures in our company:

The LVR is committed to fostering an organizational culture characterized by mutual respect. Every individual should be treated with respect, regardless of gender and gender identity, sexual orientation and identity, age, disability, ethnic origin and nationality, religion and worldview, or other characteristics that make up societal diversity. For us, diversity is not just a label, but a central component of our organizational culture and our daily actions. We see ourselves as a driving force for a diverse and inclusive society in the Rhineland and regard this as a crucial cornerstone of our democracy. The LVR as a signatory to the Diversity Charter: Out of deep conviction, we signed the Diversity Charter back in 2016 to send a clear signal in favor of a respectful and prejudice-free work environment. Through this voluntary commitment, we actively pledge to foster an organizational culture characterized by mutual respect and appreciation. Since 2021, we have been implementing a diversity strategy at the LVR. At its core is a human rights-based understanding of diversity, with the goal of equal opportunities for participation and equal rights for all, as well as zero tolerance for discrimination. We have set ambitious diversity goals for ourselves, both as an employer and as a service provider for the people of the Rhineland. To this end, we regularly train our employees on inclusion, diversity, and anti-discrimination. Our internal employee network, „Dezernat Queer,“ advocates for the visibility and networking of queer employees at the LVR. It organizes events, offers opportunities for dialogue, and brings the perspectives of the LGBTQIA+ community into the organization. Through initiatives such as IDAHOBIT, Diversity Day, participation in Cologne Pride (CSD), and many other events and contributions in our daily work, we regularly raise our employees’ awareness of the risks of discrimination and clearly stand up for diversity—both externally and internally—not just symbolically, but with conviction. A wide range of counseling services is available to our employees. We are committed to using respectful, inclusive language. As a major service provider for the people of the Rhineland, we are continuously working to ensure that our services are accessible to all people in all their diversity. We have designated contacts for equality and gender mainstreaming, inclusion, and human rights. A diversity management program is currently being established in all LVR hospitals.
